A fake fur collar, a tiny hat, and a giant attitude

As Dave would say, there is a lot going on in this picture.

Facts as known, from the Library of Congress: 1935 Independence Day celebration, Terra Alta, West Virginia, taken by Walter Evans

So many questions I don’t know where to begin. I gues we could start with the tiny hat? And how is it staying at that rakish yet spooky angle? Witchcraft? Enough bobby pins to start a hair salon? Duct tape? And what is in her hand that she seems to offering the photographer?

Why does the older lady looks so addled, as if she does not know where she is? And why is she dressed for a much colder day?

And is that or is that not the best example of stank-face you ever did see? Don’t lie; this girl is a champion.

So many, many questions.
