Rabbit Hole/Reference for Fellow Writers and History Buffs and Genealogists
aka, I did a thing again.
I got my DNA back from Ancestry, which is a different topic for a different post, but on the other side, Ancestry has been serving me all these listicles of dates and events. Don't threaten me with a good time.
I figured combining them might be 1) fascinating or at least 2) helpful for my fellow writers and/or genealogists and/or history nerds.
So here's two lists: The first is the combination of the foundation of the first thirteen colonies of the United States combined with the first concurrent major epidemics. I carried it, but not the states, to the introduction of cholera, so we'd know not to write about it before that date. If anyone is interested, I can expand and insert the rest of the states' dates up to that major epidemic, and mayhems push it to the twentieth century? Let me know.
The second version of the list, following, includes the British rules at the time, for historical clarity.
Of course, this list is not exhaustive with regards to the epidemics and their devastating effect on the peoples of the First Nations. Here's more info, along with a couple of reading recommendations:
A Disability History of the United States by Kim E. Nielsen
Rotting Face: Smallpox and the American Indian by Roland G. Robertson

.I hope, if this doesn't at least help you with your work or hobby, it interests you.
