Starting a Little Free Library
I have been wanting to start a Little Free Library for the podcast, to give back to my rural community, for some time. I have been galvanized by my mother-in-law's books to finally do so, and I plan to do this the right way, serving the community properly and applying for an Impact grant for underserved rural communities, following the Indigenous Library Program's guidelines, making certain all languages in our multilingual area are served, making certain the library is fully accessible, and by signing and following the Read In Color pledge. (already signed!) I am also reaching out to community leaders to hopefully make this a collaborative effort.
The box itself will be formed from an old dollhouse, and the charter sign will be English and Spanish. If you would like to donate to help with the purchase of the charter sign/number, the purchase of more inclusive children and YA books, or materials to weatherproof and gussy up the box itself, you can do so using my Chime sign at $Carla-Hufstedler, or through Buy Me a Coffee.
I will keep you updated on funds received and spent, as well as trackable info for the LFL (with lots of pictures!) here at the website. hashtag Cupcakes Library. I am quite excited to finally set up this project. Please join me! This will be the only LFL within miles and miles, so I am looking forward to setting it up quickly. This, to quote Bob Ford, will be a blast.
